When compared to other strains of Psilocybe cubensis mushrooms, the Golden Teacher has a rather large and elegant appearance that is very distinct. The name “Golden Teacher” refers to the mushroom’s golden caps. Discovery: Psilocybe cubensis as a species was first detailed in 1906 as “Stropharia cubensis” by mycologist Franklin Sumner Earle. It is believed that this strain was discovered growing in the wild in various parts of Florida. It is also believed to have appeared initially in the 1980s. Golden Teacher mushrooms are popular among researchers today. Currently, we know very little about the genetics and origins of this strain of psilocybin cubensis.

Growth Characteristics: The initial flush of Golden Teacher mushrooms will yield medium-sized mushrooms in most cases with ideal conditions. Later flushes will often be larger and wider. The caps of this strain are around five centimeters in diameter. This strain is not as fast fruiting as other strains under Psilocybe cubensis. Typically, this strain will fruit or colonize around 84-86 degrees F or 74-78 degrees F. It grows will in dung and straw in the wild.

Microscopic Features: Spores are 11.5–17 x 8–11 µm, subellipsoid, and basidia 4-spored. Though, sometimes they can be 2- or 3-. Pleurocystidia and cheilocystidia are present in this strain.
